An appetite for the good life!
Malacanang has issued Proclamation No. 1112 declaring September 8, 2015, Tuesday, as Special Non-Working Day in the Province of Batangas as it celebrates its annual Taal Lake Festival.
Maundy Thursday and Good Friday on April 2 and 3, 2015 are declared regular holidays based on Republic Act 9492. Some companies opted to suspend afternoon working schedule (usually 1pm onwards) on April 1, Holy Wednesday, to give ample time (in avoiding the rush hour of the Holy Week break) to their employees who will take a trip to their home provinces.
The following is a list of holidays for 2015, declared by virtue of Proclamation No. 831, s. 2014, unless otherwise specified:
January 1, 2015, Thursday – New Year’s Day (Regular holiday)
January 2, 2015, Friday – Additional special non-working day (Special non-working day)
February 19, 2015, Thursday – Chinese New Year (Special non-working day)
February 25, 2015, Wednesday – EDSA Revolution anniversary (Special holiday)
April 2, 2015, Thursday – Maundy Thursday (Regular holiday)
April 3, 2015, Friday – Good Friday (Regular holiday)
April 4, 2015, Saturday – Black Saturday (Special non-working day)
April 9, 2015, Thursday – Araw ng Kagitingan (Regular holiday)
May 1, 2015, Friday – Labor Day (Regular holiday)
A joint resolution by Congress declared July 27, 2014 as a Special Non-Working Holiday to commemorate the Centennial Anniversary of the Iglesia ni Cristo.
If you happen to have work on Sundays, then you’re the one who’s cheering about this breaking news!

I’ve been working crazy hard more than usual and carrying more weight than I can muster that I cannot help but look forward to the non-working holidays in the Philippines. One of which, if the Islamic calendar I looked at is right, will be the Feast of Ramadan holiday in July. Two (2) special non-working holidays in fact if you’re also working in Pasig City.

Other Holidays this June 2014:
Holy Week is next month.
It can easily be one of our favorite parts of the year due to the long non-working holiday break.
Most importantly, we all remember what Jesus has done for us on the Cross…
While we were sinners, he loved us and died for us.
And that LOVE continues to bridge us to Our Father in Heaven.

The Palace declared last year that June 19, 2012 is a Philippine special non-working holiday in the city of Calamba and regional province of Laguna to commemorate the birthday of our national hero, Jose P. Rizal.
I wonder if Malacanang will declare the same this year for Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s 152nd birthday on Wednesday, June 19, 2013.

Did you guys enjoy the long holiday weekends this year? Are you wondering how many long weekends there are for 2013? We got the answer so you can start planning for your personal vacations and weekend escapes. Malacanang already issued recently the list of holidays for 2013 so there’s no more guessing game.
Compared to year 2012 where we are enjoying many long weekends, likely to be at least 7, the Palace confirmed that under Proclamation 459, the Philippines will only get few long weekends in 2013 which will include special holiday February 25 (Monday) in commemoration of EDSA Revolution, regular holiday December 30 (Monday) weekend for Rizal Day, and the regular holiday in observance of the Holy Week. This includes Maundy Thursday which falls on March 28, 2013, and Good Friday, on March 29, 2013.
Chinese New Year declared a holiday this year last January 23 is no longer a holiday next year. Palace, however, declared December 24, 2013 (Tuesday) as a holiday “in order to foster closer family ties and enable our countrymen to observe Christmas more meaningfully.”

Last June, Bubba and I heard the calming waves swinging against the shore and relished the relaxing breeze of Boracay. One thing about being relaxed is the appetite gain. Soon after lunch, we stumbled into a restaurant that serves Moroccan dishes. A 2nd lunch that we paired with interesting cocktails. You’d think we’d be less excited about eating with half-full stomachs but our mouth still quivered and watered with a taste of their dishes.
No need to fly to Boracay anymore as Kasbah Restaurant and Bar has opened their 2nd branch in Fort Bonifacio. Here, your eyes also take on a feast. Eat with your other senses starting with their attractive North African vibe from multi-colored hanging lanterns, mirrors and plush lounge seating available in their 2-floor dining room.
I got a bird’s eye view of the crowd flocking inside Kasbah while going up to the 2nd floor. Kasbah caters to an energetic international clientele looking for a bit of exotic luxury and a vibrant, lively atmosphere from taste to interiors. The patrons are a good mix of well heeled locals and expats, usually settle in for the night, beginning with a bit of shisha on the terrace and a bite to eat and stay for the after-dinner live music.
Experience a feast for the senses in the most exquisite of settings that adopt unique and sophisticated style. Kasbah interiors exude a vibrant exotic souk embellished with authentic Moroccan pieces and a background of North African tunes while their signature cocktails like Marrakesh Express, Berber Black Sheep and Rock the Kasbah and mouthwatering dishes complete the experience.
On the Table
Hummus
Kasbah’s Hummus is one of their mezze or appetizers that should be a staple on the table prior to ordering your entrées. It had the right density and still retained a silky creaminess that got me pasting it again and again in warm pita.
To start off, you can either order the Harira Soup (Php 245) or their Kemias (cold appetizers) and refreshing chopped salads. To get that tangy cheese and cool taste going, opt for the Briouats with Feta Cheese and Mint.
Lamb Tagine
We couldn’t forget the lamb tagine that we had in Kasbah Boracay and we were excited to have the same again in Manila. Moroccan cooking is famous for its couscous and delicately flavored tagines.
It’s not your ordinary lamb stew as the dark sauce carry different depths of flavor without totally disintegrating the lamb taste… but the lamb, oh mama, it’s tender and meaty. It’s a thumbs-up favorite of Bubba.

After a lot of scuffle whether August 20, 2012, Monday is a holiday or not (previous post), the list of holidays for August has been announced.
