The Steaks at Texas Roadhouse

I cannot count how many times I’ve been to Texas Roadhouse, whether in the El Pueblo or Bonifacio High Street branch.  When I want no-brainer good food, it is definitely in my shortlist of go to restaurants.

Since this is a “Texas” themed restaurant, its main thrust is in its steaks –the all time favorite American grilled food.  The hand fits the glove as the restaurant is equipped with a long bar for some heavy cowboy drinking, swinging saloon doors and the wait staff in cowboy attire.

On the Table

Santa Fe Nachos PHP 275

For starters, we never fail to order the Santa Fe Nachos.  It is that bright cheesy triangle nacho dotted with a jalapeno slice in the center.  It’s in the first bite that holds the surprise because underneath the solid layer of cheese is yummy tomato basted ground beef.  Served with marinara and sour cream on the side.

Parmesan Crusted Fish Fillet PHP 350

It’s also a staple order in our table.  More from the previous post

Boneless Barbeque Chicken PHP 275

My sister Joyce loves anything Barbeque-d and chicken.  The dish she kept mostly for herself.

Herbed Trailboss Steak PHP 495

Add sautéed mushrooms PHP 90.  My mom opted to add the sautéed mushrooms for an additional charge and she was happy with her steak.  She loves her meat well done because reddish meat makes her feel repulsive.  She really enjoyed her order and couldn’t be any happier.  At any rate, her steak for me was okay but the flat iron steak was that evening’s table champ.

Flat Iron Steak PHP 475

It was very flavorful with enough juices in it to keep the meat moist and tender.  There is little needed to boost flavor since the meat is wonderful on its own tender meaty glory.  The meat wasn’t grainy or stringy.  It was so tender that it delicately softens in your mouth .  It is definitely a steak that “meats” your taste buds.

And as usual, the service crew is a great staff delivering genuine hospitality.

Cookbook Kitchen

It was quite hectic at work Friday and capping the workweek was an emergency meeting at the office late Friday afternoon.  Traffic was heavier than usual that same day in Ortigas.  Bubba and I quickly exited the scene to avoid getting stuck in the Metro bottleneck with our grumbling stomachs.

But first, a little antic from Bubs… he picked me up at the office around 730pm.  I got in the car and he was looking outside his window, his nape at me.  He slowly turns to the front and started driving.  I saw papers stuck to his face.  I was already laughing at this point.  The paper said “Hello Booze, Love Happy.”  I removed the small papers and Mr. Pogi gave me the corresponding knick-knacks for each… Skittles for happy, M&Ms for Hello Booze and Maltzers for love.

Bubba looks at a paper (finally, I’m glad he printed it out than zooming in a photo on his phone!) where the location map of Cookbook Kitchen is staring back at him.  Since Shaw Blvd was quite near my place, I asked Bubba if we could make a pit stop first at home.   10 minutes later we were back on the road, following the P. Guevarra street that leads to Luna Mencias.  Without a sweat, we were able to locate Cookbook Kitchen.  We were supposed to have dinner here last Friday but Bubba was feeling sick so we had to cancel.

The street was laden with cars from the diners of CBK.  I’m glad Bubba called and made a reservation for two.

On the Table

Parmesan Crusted White Fish PHP 260

Rich, succulent and baked white fish encrusted with Parmesan cheese -it was okay, I was expecting more from the dish though.  I’ll try another day, might be because the restaurant was fully packed that evening and the staff were a bit rattled… 🙁

Lamb Shoulder PHP 320

I think the lamb shoulder outshines the Parmesan crusted fish even if the latter is their specialty dish.  The lamb shoulder was tender and flavorful.  The meat was so soft that my and Bubba’s focus that evening was on this dish.

Kittin’s Scarlet Cake PHP 130

It’s our first time to try a scarlet cake.  From the name, the cake is made of chewy and moist red sponge-y cake dusted with mocha powder.

TGI Friday’s

Friday’s in Robinson’s Manila was a favorite hangout during college days.  I remember liking the cheery service and the American food.  I frequent the place a lot that I was brave enough to ask for a TGIF pin, which was consequently given to me.

Chris has been craving to eat at Friday’s for over a month now and finally last week we were able to go.  This time it was the Robinson’s Galleria branch that we visited.  We’ve also visited the Glorietta and High Street branches and I must note that TGI Friday’s, as well as the other Bistro Group restaurants, have always been consistent with its excellent service.

On the Table

Friday’s Free For All PHP 645

TGI Friday’s appetizer sampler that consists of all things scrumptious, mozzarella sticks, fried potato, buffalo wings and celery sticks accompanied with three sauces: salsa, sour cream and crème fresh.  It’s a staple order when dining at Friday’s.

Tortilla Crusted Fish PHP 350

Chris liked the crunchy bite of the tortilla crust while I liked the freshness of the fish.  It was our first try, seeing a lot of the other tables take a stab at the dish.  Next time though, I have to stick to the Parmesan crusted fish.

Service is commendable while food is as consistent as its service.  It’s always such a pleasure to dine at TGIFriday’s and I’m craving for a repeat really soon.
