2010 Holidays Declared

August 5, 2009 – Special Non-Working Holiday

Malacañang has issued Proclamation No. 1851 declaring Wednesday, August 5, 2009 as a Special Non-Working Holiday nationwide to give the entire nation the opportunity to honor and show their respect, appreciation and gratitude to the beloved former President Corazon C. Aquino in their own respective ways.

2010 Holidays Declared. Book That Vacation!

Time to pencil in the 2010 calendar your travel plans!

There were some debacles over President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s recent signing of Republic Act 9645 declaring July 27, 2009 and same date of the years that follow as a special national “working holiday” in recognition of the founding anniversary of Iglesia ni Cristo.  Everyone was baffled over PGMA’s move as some comments that there is no use signing that decree if it will be a working holiday anyway.  It’s only a special announcement that memorializes Iglesia ni Cristo day.  Another commenter on this blog said that if that’s the case then to be fair, PGMA should recognize other sects as well with their own special “working holiday,” which I see as a very good point.

Let’s not burst our bubble.  Here’s the list of 2010 declared holidays.

“In order to foster closer family ties and enable our countrymen to observe Christmas more meaningful, it is but fitting to declare December 24 as an additional special (non-working) day throughout the day,” Arroyo said in the proclamation.
