I first learned about Nick Vujicic when our Pastor showed a video of his feature on Oprah at the end of a Sunday Church Service. Imagine having to go through life without hands… much more feet… or any part of your limbs. Known as “The Man with No Limbs”, Nick Vujicic of Serbian and Australian descent, was born in Melbourne, Australia, without arms and legs from a rare disorder, tetra-amelia. We need arms to fend for ourselves, to work and make a career, to wrap around a friend and express our joy or support, to hold our loved ones with affection… we need feet to get to one place to another, to steer our body in a direction, to run aimlessly towards a clearing or field, to climb stairs, to dance. I can’t imagine not being able to move my body to dance. How about not having both?
His story of disability started as a daily struggle against the usual challenges of school and growing up such as bullying and self-esteem issues, as well as with depression and loneliness. God has a plan for him all along and we will be able to learn his story of overcoming a limbless life with the message of hope and strength found in Jesus Christ alone.
