Kraft Eden Keso De Gallo in 100 Days in 100 Towns Builds One Nation

Every year, the Philippines as One Nation starts the World’s Longest Christmas Celebration and Kraft Eden is right in the middle of the action as they launched Kraft Eden Keso de Gallo and search for the best unique dish in 100 towns.

100 Days.  100 Towns.  100 Unique Dishes.

December may be the start of Christmas for the rest of the world. But here in the Philippines, Christmas history is made–because the world’s favorite season of the year starts a hundred days early.

As early as September 4, Eden Cheese–the country’s well-loved cheese brand spearheads the world’s longest Christmas celebration with Eden’s Sarap ng Pasko: 100 Days of Christmas. Previously igniting the joy and faith of Filipinos nationwide in last year’s Keso de Gallo, Eden is  back to once again bring the warmest and tastiest Yuletide tidings to everyone, reminding Filipino of hope and unity.

“It is very evident that Filipinos have an innate sense of early excitement for Christmastime whatever situation they may be in,” Kraft Foods Philippines’ Category Marketing Manager Alex Dan Tacderas explains. “That is why we wanted to embody this excitement and bring the entire nation together for Christmas as early as September 4,” he adds.

Christmas may now have officially started in the Philippines. But this latest Yuletide undertaking by Eden in partnership with ABS-CBN Network kicked off as early as July when participating towns were asked for a cook off. “Each dish was made with indigenous ingredients native to their very own town–making every dish original and unique,” Tacderas says.

Now with 100 towns competing to have the country’s number one dish, Eden’s 100 Sarap ng Pasko: 100 Days of Christmas will bring out even more the culinary creativity in every participating town nationwide. “We believe in the natural talent and healthy competitiveness of Filipinos in making nutritious, delicious and affordable meals especially during this Christmas season,” Tacderas says. “That is why we leave the rest of the nation to vote for and decide who deserves to be the town that will be most recognized,”

Last year, Kraft Eden gave the celebration of Misa de Gallo a cheesy twist by feeding churchgoers for 9 mornings in 9 different cities from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, in 9 different churches with 9 carefully selected Filipino recipes. “This year, we aimed to invite a hundred because during this season of merrymaking– the more really is merrier,” Tacderas shares.

1 Nation. 1 Festive Season. 1 Grand Yuletide Feast.

With a natural love and passion for food, this pioneering celebration isn’t merely a competition. Moreover, it brings the entire nation together in time to share the tastiest of Yuletide tidings. “Christmastime is a time wherein sharing is found most prominent especially among families,” Senior Brand Manager Anna Sapitan discusses. “Through this, we wanted to unite the country together as one big family with a common love for Christmas feasting,”

As a country that is known to be naturally warm and generous, Kraft Eden also aims to share Christmas joy and faith to every Filipino across the nation. “We selected towns precisely because we wanted to reach out from the most popular ones up to the less recognized ones–in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao,” Sapitan says.

Underscoring an optimistic, festive and delightful Christmas for everyone in the country, this year, Sarap ng Pasko: 100 Days of Christmas, strengthens the Yuletide spirit alive for each Filipino across the world.

1 Proud Country to Inspire the Whole World

“Apart from bringing the entire nation together during this celebration, we believe that this will also inspire the rest of the world on how passionate we Filipinos are when it comes to food,” Sapitan claims.

Being the world’s first longest Christmas celebration, this event pushes food tourism to a whole new level. “The Filipinos’ natural knack at creating scrumptious, healthy and budget-friendly meals makes, I believe makes us world-class,” Sapitan shares. With the country’s unique brand of culinary creativity, the world will surely want to get a taste of what our country has to offer.

“Having 100 towns nationwide create 100 unique cheese-based dishes will entice our friends from abroad to come and experience the country for themselves,” Tacderas says.

With the Spirit of Christmas ignited as early as September 4 and kept alive until the first Sunday of January 2011, the country is sure to make a mark in Christmas history the world-around. Moreover, the Yuletide warmth and joy spread by the country’s well-loved cheese among Filipino families nationwide will empower and unite the country even more.

“Christmas really is the best time to be closer to our loved ones and to extend our love and faith to one another,” Tacderas explains. “And to have this culminating event is a way for all of us to end the year with great joy and start the next with utmost optimism,”

Vote for your town and help them realize their simple community wish by winning 2M in support fund and 100,000 for yourself. Send an Eden carton and be counted. Visit www.sarapngpasko.com or call 72-PASKO for more details.

Campaign for the participating town in Pasig City!

Pasig City is known as the capital of Rizal before Metro Manila was formed. The University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P), one of the most exclusive universities in the country and the headquarters of San Miguel Corporation, owner of the largest producer of beer in the Philippines can be found here.

An interesting fact is that Pasig City is known for the legend of Pasig River which used to be an important transport route of  the Spaniards  in Manila.   The river connects  the famous Laguna de bay and Manila Bay.  It is also the home of one of the oldest edifices in Metro Manila, the Immaculate Conception  Church.

Their dish: Sweet and Sour Cheese Tofu.

What could be an easier dish to prepare (sweet and sour sauce made from scratch, anybody can cook it at their home) but excites the tastes buds (cheese is always wonderful) with a note of healthy bid (because of the tofu) than sweet and sour cheese tofu?

A Delightful Toblerone “Thank You” to Your Blockbuster Friend

There are days in a year that were specially made to thank fathers, mothers, and even teachers.  But we shouldn’t stop to thank them only during those specific days.  On the same breath, when was the last time you showed sweetness towards your friend who have pulled through for you through thick and thin?  If you haven’t, maybe it’s about time that you did.

Show how thankful you are to your blockbuster friend for being there for you, every step of the way.

Our friends turn our tears into laughter, they tell us the truth even if it hurts and we know that they’d take a leave from work just to help us through tough times or go with us through life’s many adventures. They are bonded to us, not by blood or by virtue of work, but by common interests, goals, passions and simply by unconditional love. We all know that special friends like these come rarely in a lifetime, and while our best friends ask for nothing in return for everything they’ve done for us, we know that we need to let them know how much we appreciate their sacrifices, their care and their love. We know that they are there for us 24 hours a day, seven days a week—so it makes perfect sense that we also thank them for their friendship every single day.

Toblerone, the legendary triangular Swiss chocolate, urges you to say “thank you” to your very best friend everyday through simple things that show your appreciation.  You can start showing how grateful you are by telling the world about the wonderful story of your friendship.  Talk about how you met your epic friend, the adventures you’ve gone through together and especially why you are thankful for your relationship with him or her. All you have to do is to “Like” the Toblerone Fan Page on Facebook, upload a photo of you and your epic friend, tag yourselves and TobleronePilipinas and then post your answers in the Comments section of your photo. Make sure that you get your epic friend to “Like” the post as well!

Ten winners will be chosen based on the number of people who “Liked” your post as well as the feedback from the Toblerone team and a special panel of judges. Winners will be treated to Toblerone gift packs and a full day of fun and exciting bonding activities, featuring body care treatments at The Spa, with their epic friends. It’s a great and unique way to start saying “thank you” to your best friend! The contest will run from July 5, 2010 to August 11, 2010—so hurry and tell the world how grateful you are for your epic friend.

Gratitude, like friendship, shouldn’t just be a one-day deal.  Let this opportunity from Toblerone inspire you to think of many different ways to show your friend how much you appreciate all she or he has done for you. After all, each day is always a good day to say “thank you.”

Spread the Sweetness this Mother’s Day with Toblerone

It’s that time of the year again where we celebrate the second Sunday of May to pay tribute to moms.  It’s not only a day of moms but it’s also a day for those we consider our second mothers.  We got a handful of those in our life –women who have shown support and quiet strength all those years we were growing up?

Over the years, we have encountered women whom we’ve come to regard as our second moms.  And in its drive to celebrate the art of saying thank you –especially to the unsung everyday Filipino hero – Toblerone, the well-loved triangular Swiss chocolate, believes that Mother’s Day is the perfect time to give them something one-of-a-kind.

Here’s a list of some of the “other mothers” to whom we should all extend the sweetness of gratitude to:

The Lola

Your grandmother is the mom who always saw you as a child and never stopped giving you advice. She may still be sporting the same old flower-patterned dress and terry-cloth slippers, but your “Lola” never fails to amaze you with her wisdom and care. Put a smile on her face and show her how much you appreciate all her efforts throughout the years

The Tita

Those times you came home late, she would usually stop your mom from continuously scolding you and would then calmly talk to you about your mom just being concerned about your safety. Your tita always has been the mediator, always able to see both sides of the story and make a compromise out of any situation. And this Mothers’ Day may just be the ideal time to give something back.

The Motherly Mentor at Work

She may constantly put pressure on you and push you to be at your best all the time. But you know it’s for your own professional and personal growth. Those deadlines she set are for you to learn more about the value of time. Those bonuses you get are for you to realize that your efforts at work are highly appreciated. This Mothers’ Day, let her be the one to feel that all the hard work she has invested on you are worth it–-thank her for the relentless guidance she has given you be it inside or outside the office.

The Kindergarten Teacher

What about your teacher? Despite those times she gave you the hardest exam, it eventually paid off. You even swore you saw her eyes watering a bit during your graduation. She’s given you tough love and recognizing it is more than enough for her.

The Yaya

Remember how you used to run and look for her whenever you got scolded–wrapping your tiny arms around her waist and wetting her dress with your tears. Now that you’re all grown up and you still see her washing your clothes and preparing your meals, you know she deserves something special.

Though overlooked with their efforts mostly going unnoticed, anyone you’ve come to consider as a second mother has undoubtedly made an impact.  Extend your sweetest Thank You’s to them – the same way that Toblerone will be honoring the unsung heroes of our everyday lives in a big celebration on October 20.  And yes, your yaya, teacher and lola and all the other women whom you’ve regarded as your second moms —are invited to this event.

In the meantime, make Mothers’ Day extra special for them by thanking them with Triangles. Thank them with Toblerone.

MOMS MOMS Moms, I love love LOVE YOU.

(And I know you won’t be able to see this unless shobe shows you or I show you..

since you don’t even know where the Power button is.  Haha. 🙂 )

Philippines 2010 Elections: Krispy Kreme Wants You to DOugh YOUR PART

There’s always politicking in the Philippines whether it’s election period or not.  Campaigning went to full gear around 3rd quarter of last year.  When the campaign period officially started, streets became filled with campaign posters and TV programs have been loaded with political advertisements.

It’s national elections and debates both on TV and in casual environments have skyrocketed on who to vote for, quite particularly in the seat of the next President.

I think there are also other important things to consider this coming election.  For instance, it will be a first in the country for registered voters to use an automated voting system.

A mock election conducted by COMELEC showed that some voters did not know where and how to cast their ballots.  Efforts from various sectors like on-air commercials are being made to be able to educate the voters.  Krispy Kreme is doing its part to contribute as well.

The well-loved family brand is out to their own campaign called “Vote 2010: Dough Your Part” and in doing so have devised their own way to help spread awareness.  They have created a mock ballot wherein voters will choose their winning doughnut and coffee.  “We wanted to make it a fun learning experience for the voters”, Mark Gamboa, Marketing Manager of Krispy Kreme said.  “This will help them prepare for the real, automated voting system.” He adds.

Given the insufficient knowledge of the voters regarding the new voting system, Krispy Kreme will give voters a chance to learn more about it. “So when the elections come, they wouldn’t be confused” Gamboa said. This awareness then leads to an organized and peaceful election.

Other than sharing the knowledge, the mock ballot Krispy Kreme has created will also encourage them to actually exercise their right to vote.  “Once they try the mock ballot, it will urge them to go out and vote.” Gamboa said. Since it is a new system and others may think it will be problematic, the Krispy Kreme campaign may help them think otherwise. For everyone to further maximize this advocacy, limited edition Krispy Kreme Vote 2010 doughnuts will be available on the said event and from May 8 to 10.

“With this, the spirit of this campaign can be made more visible.” he said. With this campaign, Krispy Kreme proves itself as more than a doughnut brand. They are also advocates of responsible citizenship. They have shown how doughnuts and coffee became a viable tool to educate Filipinos about the latest voting system.

The Inside Scoop

It was a hot, hot Saturday afternoon.  Bubba picked me up from the spanking new office of Geiser Maclang after lunch.  Since we were already in Makati, Bubba thought of picking up the ice cream Bev texted him about.

This wasn’t the first time Bubba tasted Bev’s homemade ice cream.  The first time he tasted it, he kept yapping how he liked it.  I couldn’t relate that time.

I tried the ube version when there was “Burger Wars” at Bev’s place early this year –where she and Gretchen did a burger cook-off.  Delicious grilled burgers… it was a tough call to choose the better one.  I’d save that for another post.

Black Sesame Ice Cream

Since we didn’t bring a cooler like Bev instructed, we had to eat the ice cream ASAP.  No complaints here.

Bubba’s car was our sole witness as we scoop one ice cream bite after the other like we were in a tight race.  I don’t know if I can get ice cream with black sesame flavor that’s as good anywhere else but I simply love Bev’s Black Sesame Ice Cream.  The flavor wasn’t too overpowering but you get that right hint of black sesame amidst the dense texture of creaminess.

The heat was extreme outside but the ice cream was as intense.  Bev, I’d be first at the door when you open an Ice Cream parlor.

Bubba told me that Bev invested on a good (read: expensive) ice cream maker at home and the quality of her ingredients is top-notch.  I wish I know how to do this at home.  I can’t wait to try her other flavors.  She came up with Earl Grey Tea Ice Cream last week and we are dying to find out how that tastes like.

For small orders, contact Bev Tiu at emailforicecream@gmail.com.

Thanks Bev! 😉

Say Your Sweet Gesture With…

I’m not a big fan of flowers (maybe once in 2 years –and it has to be my favorite ones).  Flowers wither and die, like seeing money shrivel.  Yesterday after lunch though, somebody delivered “flowers in a pot” in the office.  I love dark chocolate and if it grows in pots looking like flowers, I’ll put on the gloves and become a farmer.

I know what chocolates I’d be snacking on in the weeks to come 😉

HUGE.

*Thanks GM and Toblerone!
