COCA-COLA® Sari-Saring Happiness Day

Families big or small gather together to celebrate the Christmas season. Friends celebrate it too. It’s the most festive season of the year meant to be shared with our loved ones. We are reminded of the gift of giving, with the greatest of all when God showed us the supreme act of giving.

We know Christmas is around the corner when we see the Metro lighting up one by one with shimmering hues of red, green, gold, and white… and all around we feel the Christmas spirit slowly embracing us. Kodak moments unravel seeing the most joyous smiles and expectant eyes when our loved ones wrap or unwrap their gifts under the Christmas tree. Our eyes glow as we peer out the car window appreciating Christmas decors we see around.

As a family, our cue to bring out the dusty box of Christmas decors, that means trees, parols, santas, Christmas socks, is right after the Halloween season. Our excitement builds as we see our decade-old Christmas tree starting to form. Traditionally, we hang and re-hang the ornaments on the tree week after week. Some may not necessarily be about Christmas or a usual Christmas item but something that reminds us of love, or demonstrated expression of love. The best part is coming home to the blinking dance of lights around the Christmas tree.

But what truly lights our hearts is spending time with our loved ones during this season and reflecting on all the things we are truly grateful for… the daily blessings, protection, real friendships, hearty laughter, a favorite food, unexpected kindness, beautiful visions of the future, and the eternal hope we have in Christ through our unwavering faith.

As Christmas beckons, COCA-COLA® amplifies the spirit of the season lighting different areas in the country with their COCA-COLA® Sari-Saring Happiness campaign. Can we create enough COCA-COLA® Parol that emits powerful light to remind us never to doubt that there’s always a BRIGHTER TOMORROW and we have the power to SHARE happiness?

A Merry White Crema from Alaska

Last December 15, Alaska Milk staged the Merry Cremas Food Bazaar at the Eastwood Mall Activity Area to usher in yuletide indulgence.  There were 24 food merchants and suppliers who gathered to showcase their products highlighting the use of Alaska All-Purpose Cream.

The Alaska All-Purpose Cream was used as an ingredient in the merchant’s featured specialty dish.  The specialty dishes vary and can either be savory dishes or baked goods.  I was there 1-hour ahead of the public opening since Alaska has asked me to be one of the judges they invited to evaluate the best product made with Alaska Crema All Purpose Cream.

It was a little tough picking the Crema of the crop, since there were several good contenders.  I also enjoyed the decors and the booth designs that the merchants have obviously spent time on.

But after much taste testing and filling my stomach with cream-filled goodies, I finally made a very shortlist.

Grab a Bag of Chips

What are you munching on these days? 🙂

Bubba (who is the expert on the matter) and I are departing from the usual chips that are on our stack.  If you’ve been following this blog and what we stuff our mouth with, then you might have already read this, this, this, this and this and know the love Bubba has for his chips.  I cannot even interrupt.

We still love our Kettle (we just had a bag of Kettle Buffalo Bleu when we watched Eat, Pray, Love movie premiere last Tuesday) and Doritos and Tostitos and Ruffles Cheddar Cheese and Cheetos Jalapeno but there’s a whole universe of chips/junk snack we have yet to explore.

#1 Snyder’s of Hanover Cheddar Cheese Pretzel Pieces

Snyder’s Hanover Pretzel tops my favorite as of late.  Snack on smooth pretzel pieces that are coated with sharp cheddar cheese flavor that’s not too overwhelming – just the right amount of saltiness and cheese flavor that can get quite addicting.  I like the texture that feels packed in the mouth then crumbles then melts delightfully leaving you with wonderful cheese flavor.

#2 Winter Fruit Dried Mixed Berries (Blueberries, Cherries, Cranberries, and Golden Raisins)

Dee Boss gave this to me when I came back to the office.  She knew I was looking for this and bought it for me when she saw it in S&R.  When you’re trying to count your calories or lessen your snacking, this is a good alternative.  The light sweetness of the dried fruits will dissipate your cravings and will satiate your hunger.

I think since you keep popping the dried berries in your mouth and chewing on them, your sub-conscious will think that you keep on feeding yourself.   And it tastes good, fruitiness jumps from one type of berry to the next.  I’m looking for the variant that has mixed berries and mixed nuts too.

#3 Red Rock Deli Deli-Style Potato Chips in Lime and Black Pepper

This reminded me of Tostitos Tortilla Chips with Hint of Lime but more peppery.  Texture is also different since Tortilla has thicker surface while potato chips are almost paper-thin like and smoother.  I’m still biased with my Tostitos Tortilla chips with Hint of Lime but this is a good variation.

#4 On the Border Creamy Monterey Jack Dip

You got to try the Creamy Monterey Jack.  I love the creaminess and subdued cheese taste.  This is what I would pair my Tostitos Tortilla Chips with.

So what’s the label of your bag? 😉

2009 Christmas Dinner with the Berks

Don’t ask me why Berks.  It’s just is and the name stuck 😉

Flashback:  Berks Christmas Dinner December 27, 2007

Although I was forced to file a leave for December 21 and my last day of work was supposed to be Dec 18, I was still working until Dec 23, Wednesday.  I wanted to cook for the Christmas dinner but I didn’t find the time because I was still in the office until 6pm.  Bubba and I just ordered food for the potluck.  Made looked for my pasta (*meblush*  tee-hee).

What makes this Christmas different is, the group was complete!  Alex has moved back to Manila after a long career stint in Singapore.

As customary, dinner was potluck and the table was filled with so many delicious food!  There were just too many dishes on the round table that it was hard to find space to put everything in.  Alex brought 3-way duck from Luk Foo and it was delish.  I don’t remember who brought Nathaniel’s Buko Pandan but it was also a hit with the group.

Andrew brought Tequila Rose to which I chided Anne to drink the first shot.  Anne is pregnant with their second baby so she couldn’t go anywhere near the alcohol.  Hee-hee!

After dinner, we all gathered near Eric’s beautiful Christmas tree for our exchange gifts.  This year was a bit funny because most got each other gift certificates!  Er-hem, I didn’t start the fire 😉

We’re thinking of doing 2 themes next year, one is White Elephant while the other is the regular exchange gift.  That should be fun.

Year Ender Photos!

Toast to Friendship and a Happy Christmas!

Cheers!  🙂

The Giving Cup at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf

Year 2009 passed so quickly that I didn’t even notice that it was already end of the year.  Usually, we cap off the end of the year with the Yuletide season, which is the season of giving.  Last year, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf launched the 12 Cups of Advocacy campaign that opened the very spirit of giving

This year, they’re doing it again and this time, they have doubled the cause organizations they want to help out.  Everyone has a cause they cherish–the environment, kids, animals, the list goes on. And this Christmas, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is allowing you to celebrate Christmas and give back to the community with the launch of their holiday program: Give in to Giving: 24 Cups with The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.  Instead of just extending the Christmas giving to friends and families, you can now heighten the “sharing” experience by giving to someone who is a complete stranger to us.  The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf recently sponsored an advocacy fair where the public can know more about these various groups and beneficiaries and ways in how they can help.

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has earmarked a portion of beverage sales for 24 community advocacies, each with its own unique approach and all of which have come onboard for this holiday program. With the various calamities that have befallen the country in recent months, it is important that we come together and help each other out in our own little way. Your initial contribution may seem like a drop in the bucket now, but in time, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf assures its customers that the percentage from every cup sold will be going back to a community in need –so every drop in the bucket is precious and appreciated. And it is everyone’s hope that in time, that bucket will overflow with the generosity of CBTL patrons like yourself who surely have a cause they are passionate about.

Each purchase can help empower someone to do good for fellow Filipinos. Information about Give in to Giving: 24 Cups with The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf can also be found online at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Facebook page detailing specific branches of The Bean where you can be part of the program.  Everyone who gives in to giving will be given a Christmas treat as a way for The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf to thank you for your generosity and donation certificates are also available for purchase.

It’s time to give a warmer and more soulful meaning to sharing this season–toast to your blessings as your giving cup of coffee or tea eases away your worries and contributes to rebuilding someone’s home.

I’m also proud to say that Bubba is spearheading a “project for a cause” this Christmas.  From planning to recruiting to execution, Bubba is in charge of the logistics.  I want to thank ahead friends who have already pledged 3 hours of their day on December 20 to help out Bubba with the Virlanie Foundation kids.

Volunteers are very much welcome.  Please email me at betweenbites@gmail.com

Estee Lauder Holiday Spectacular

Last week, Estee Lauder launched its limited collection of solid perfume compact during the Estee Lauder Holiday Spectacular event held at The Gallerie, Rustan’s Makati.  Filipino designer Inno Sotto owns The Gallerie, a level dedicated to fashion, particularly his own personal collection.  The venue was laced with everything that is beautiful including a red carpet in the midst of the displays.

Estee Lauder first introduced its solid fragrance compact in 1963 with the release of the Youth-Dew Boutique Oval.  This year’s collection shows that their fragrance trinkets only get better one collection after the other.  Designs weaved vary from special holiday-themed items such as candy cane and striped lollipops to animal figures such as penguin, spider, dove –all fabricated in distinctiveness and glamour.  Some of the compacts were even designed by famous jewelry designer, Jay Strongwater.

The collection is touring different countries and will return to its home in New York once the circuit is completed. The roving exhibition is not only a showcase of the intricate solid perfume ornaments, but some are issued as auction items to benefit the Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation.

The fragrances are speckled from the familiar Estee Lauder brands –my favorite of which, Pleasures.  Some of the elaborate compacts are available for as low as PHP7,000, that can stand as a perfect holiday gift.

Celebrity spotting at the event includes Priscilla Meirelles, Cory Quirino, and Diether Ocampo.
