House of Obagi Blue Peel Radiance

In my whole life, I have never had a chemical peel… or any peeling for that matter.  It always scared me and I’ve seen the actual peeling from girl friends who have taken it some years back and the white skin tissues were really shedding off their faces.  My trip to Europe last month had me slow-baking under the sun for long hours.  Their sun doesn’t set around 6pm like in Manila.  It sets around 9-930pm so can you imagine the hours of sun exposure on my face?  I noticed a bit of sun damage on my face.  These tiny pinkish reddish dots and unevenness started bothering me.

Walking the Streets of Florence 🙂

I had a chat with Sophie of beautynomics.com during a dinner at Sentro and she suggested getting a professional opinion from House of Obagi.  She also mentioned that Blue Peel Radiance treatment might just be the answer to my worry but advised to consult with an expert first.

I set my appointment three Saturdays ago and visited House of Obagi (HOO) branch in SM North EDSA.  I first had a consultation with their in-house derma.  She checked my skin and talked about skin care habits.  We were of the same age so we easily related to each other’s skin issues and future concerns.  She went on to explain about the different kind of peels and what treatment will be good for my specific skin concern.

Just as Sophie thought, the dermatologist recommended Blue Peel Radiance, House of Obagi’s newest peel treatment.  Compared to Blue Peel and TruPeel that are more pervasive chemical peel, Blue Peel Radiance is a lighter peel that has zero downtime and is low maintenance.  Low maintenance just means washing your face with facial wash, no applying of creams or anything else (lessening make-up use), and regularly using sun block for at least 1 week.  This suits me best since lately I barely have enough time in the morning or evening for an extensive skin care regimen.

Missing Make-up Again

First time I lost my make-up kit was some time 2004 I think.  I was still with SE then and we were at Glorietta 4 going around.  From the Glorietta 4 entrance (near Breadtalk), we alighted the escalator going to the second floor.  We were talking until two guys in front of me picked up something on the step right before the edge of the escalator, which blocked our way.  I was so nervous at the thought that we would collide with them that I said, “excuse me” loudly.  They were able to stand up just in time that we had enough space to step into the 2nd floor without bumping into them.

As we turned towards the next escalator, I told SE that I’d go back down and check quickly on the Terranova store.  I agreed to follow and meet him in the upper floors.  When I entered Terranova, I clutched my bag and found it open.  I immediately checked what was missing.  Thank goodness, it was only my make-up kit that they were able to get, probably mistaken it for a wallet.  I felt bad that time because I’m the type who’s really attached to my things (I guess it’s the OC behavior) and even if it’s only a highlighter or pen, I’d feel really bad losing it.  I’m so particularly careful with my things.  What more if I lose different items at the same time?  Such is the same in the case of a make-up kit.

Thankfully, I got over it a few days later since my mom bought me replacement (plus I was using L’Oreal powder foundation that time which is way more cheaper than EL) and because I thought I was luckier not to get more valuable stuff stolen.  I’m sure the culprit/s (it’s a widespread escalator-thieving modus operandi up to this date) weren’t gunning for my make-up stash.  They probably thought it was my wallet.

Last Saturday, Bubba and I went around to canvass furniture in Hemady, Pioneer area, and Greenhills.  Trying to make my bag lighter, I removed the make-up kit and placed it on the side pocket of the car door.  I’ve done this maybe 8 times before but never had any problem.  Sunday, I realized that I didn’t have it in my bag and immediately looked inside the car.  It was gone.

Two points where I probably lost it:

  1. In Greenhills, Bubba went back to the car and got something out of my side of the car thus opening that passenger door.  His leg must have bumped into it?  Or I might have bumped into it at one point or another getting in and out of the car and I didn’t notice.
  2. We had dinner at La Tienda that evening.  I debated whether to change clothes and shoes (I was wearing a shirt, shorts and Fit Flops.  There’s a dress code at La Tienda and most of Makati restaurants.  I asked out front if I needed to change, they let me in without having to change into my shoes even.)  I think I debated inside my head whether or not I should freshen up.  I don’t have any recall if I grabbed my make-up kit.  I went straight inside the washroom when we came in.  I might have placed it on the counter and left it there.

We called La Tienda yesterday and called 3-4 times to check but the staff said they didn’t find anything.

I went on a cleaning rampage yesterday that took me until almost 12mn to finish because I felt really really really bad.  I even cleaned my big make-up bag at home and threw some old stuff.  There’s nothing to use there for my day-to-day, it’s mostly eyeshadows, lipsticks –basically variants in case I need to put heavy make-up on for an occasion or an office Christmas program or something.  I had no appetite for dinner last night.  I didn’t eat lunch today.  All I had was sky flakes.

I’m sure somebody else must have found it.  Upon seeing the contents, I know there’s no personal interest in it for them.  Besides, why would anyone want to use a used make-up on their face?  What if I had warts or some skin infection?  But it’s nowhere to be found and nobody has returned it.

You see I don’t use much make-up on my face.  Lipstick, lipgloss, eyeshadow, blush can last me up to 1 year and even beyond that because when I do use them, I only need to put a little.  I’m not good at putting on make-up anyway so I just stay with the basics.  Less means less mistakes.  What I usually run out of is powder but that even takes 6-9 months before I need to replenish.

Inside the small pouch:

Estee Lauder Cyberwhite Powder Refill PHP 2,150 (I just bought 2 weeks ago)

Estee Lauder Powder Case approx. PHP 1,800 (2 years old)

Lancome Juicy Tubes Fraise approx. PHP 1,150 (almost full, bought in August 2009)

Lancome Mascara L’Extreme Black approx. PHP 1,500 (almost dried out but only 2 months old)

Lancome Eye Pencil (free with a Lancome promo before)

Lancome Flash Retouche Concealer approx. PHP 1,995 (about ¼ full)

Shu Uemera Glow On Blush approx. PHP 1,500 (can still last me for 1 whole year or more)

Cheap lipstick I got in Japan Yakuyen Store (can still last me for 1 whole year or more)

L’Oreal Lip Gloss PHP 200 (I got on a sale)

Cheap Eye Shadow I got in Japan Yakuyen Store (1 light pink shade out –2 darker pink shades can still last me until end of 2010)

Oral B Travel Toothbrush approx. PHP 75 (2 months old)

Tommy Hilfiger Make-up Pouch (gift from my ninang in 2005 which I only used in 2007)

TOTAL: approx. PHP 10,370

It’s so heartbreaking.  It takes time to build up that make-up library again.  And this is the only time I wished I lost my darn wonky phone instead of that.  I could have bought a new phone with that much investment.

I’m pushing the envelope with this living room project I’m currently working on.  And this “missing make-up kit” is pulling the plug on my plans.  It’s a letdown, a distraction and another financial load.  I feel like screaming and at the same time I feel like curling up in my bed and sulking 🙁

I didn’t realize that losing a make-up kit could be really depressing.

Learning Points:

  1. Never to put anything again on the side pocket of the car door
  2. Put a calling card inside the make-up kit or tag it with name and contact details (sounds silly but might help)
  3. I know I’m OC but I got to be fierce in double-checking each place I just left.  I do this regularly already but my wandering mind must have slipped and forgot
  4. Get a new bag where I can store everything without hurting my back

Fountain of Youth in Celeteque Advanced Moisturizer

Usually 30-55 year old women worry about fine lines especially the wrinkles around the eyes known as crow’s feet.  I still have some years left in me before I hit that considerable calendar birthday age (30 or 31), but I am at that stage where I should be taking steps to prevent or delay the inevitable –or at least, it was a foreseeable facial occurrence before Celeteque’s newest product.

Last Saturday, Celeteque revealed the results of their latest product challenge test.  Earlier this year, the Céleteque Advanced team created the True Results Challenge, wherein over 50 Filipina women, aged 30 to 55 years old coming from all walks of life, became part of an amazing experience that resulted in roughly around 92% of their fine lines gone in 6 weeks.

These women were present during the event and gave their own testimonies regarding their experience with the product.  Results vary but for most of them, they felt an amazing youthful transformation.  Their skins feel smoother and younger and for some, it was 92-95% less fine lines since May this year!

Jennie, Between Bites, and Lace

For 38-year old Cecile Yatco, taking part of the Challenge was one of the best things she has ever done in her life. “I was really excited to join the True Results Challenge, because it was something new” she said. “Besides, I was really curious about their claim of up to 92% less fine lines in 6 weeks. I was thinking if it could really be true.”

Johanna Huang, a 43-year old interior designer, was also amazed by the product’s efficacy. “In my third day of using the product, I actually saw my embedded white heads start to come off. By the first week, I noticed that my freckles and sunspots were getting lighter” she reminisced. “And after a month I could actually see my fine lines diminishing. It was really amazing.”

The new Céleteque Advanced Anti-Wrinkle Facial Moisturizer has the Double Peptide Complex, which penetrates deep into the skin, and helps stimulate the formation of collagen. Collagen is the natural protein that plumps up skin thus diminishing fine lines and wrinkles and renewing outer layer of damaged skin.

Seeing is believing, especially for women at this day and age who have tried so many products in the market.  There was also an assessment portion during the event where a dermatologist verifies the number of fine lines a woman has.  With the number of lines examined and recorded, the women attendees are now going to take on the “True Results” challenge and see the honest to goodness truth for themselves.

Now, smoother and younger looking skin can be yours.  Try the new Céleteque Advanced Anti-Wrinkle Facial Moisturizer and see the honest to goodness truth for yourself.

Patting Myself On the Back

Most people are trapped in the traffic of everyday routine.  It is good to get out of yourself every now and then.

Being the “family man,” I expend strength and bring order at home while the other 9 hours of my day are enchained to building a career.  When you are on the road of life for too long, an occasional stopover wouldn’t hurt.

Traveling is the break I give myself when my body shouts for a pause from the daily grind.  The body is a temple, a trinity of the physical, mind and soul.  Traveling can be a vacation for physical and mental body at the same time that it can enrich a soul.

Handling channel carriage arrangements, there is a lot of push and pull happening in negotiations.  Managing several contracts and being the middleman, my eyes need to catch the fine details.  The paperwork pile on my desk towers up while emails with counterparts in Singapore, Hong Kong and other parts of the world never seem to end.  It’s good to challenge myself and stretch my limits.  I have always had that interest in legalities anyway.  But you and I shouldn’t be imprisoned by the corners of our desk or by the comfort of habit and knowing what to do.

Just open yourself up, walk right out and see the world.  Take a detour from the monotony and delight yourself in becoming a stranger for at least once in your life.

Wander around, smell the flowers and let the sun kiss your face.  Transplant yourself into a somewhere completely different than home and be in for a pleasant surprise.  There is a spark of newness in every travel.  Peel a part of you that you have not undressed before.  Take a plunge into the unknown.

To travel is also to learn and grow.  Discover other cultures.  Encounter new people.  Observe what other society dictates while setting yourself free from the dictates of your own society.

The unfamiliar says hello back to me and I foster an appreciation of both the world at large and the chair waiting in front of the computer back in my office.  I like the exploration but I suddenly miss the sense of comfort that I sometimes take for granted.

I usually come home with a renewed outlook in life.  This is a reward for myself I will not find in merely shopping.

Since the advent of the A(H1N1) virus, my traveling plans have been kicked to the curb.  I need to find new ways to crack the routine spell.

The slog doing the usual everyday activities can drain me at a certain point.  Below are some suggestions on how to increase the height of LIVING:

1. Learn a new hobby, skill or language.

There is always something to learn.  Not because we no longer attend required schooling that we discontinue learning too.  Don’t let your mind decay into only reading magazines, surfing the net or watching the tube.  Pick up a new hobby.  One is never too old to start a collection of something.  Gardening can be a good hobby and helpful to the environment as well.  Owning a DSLR doesn’t mean possessing the skill of capturing invaluable moments at its best so learn about photography.  Be taught how to play a guitar.  Speak a foreign language by enrolling in short courses.

2. Laugh at least once a day

Laugh often, live much.  Fate has a very good sense of humor.  Why shouldn’t we?

In our operations meeting, my 20’s something age is the youngest in a boardroom full of 30s, 40s and 50s managers, heads and VPs.  Dealing with many seniority and striving to deliver a stalwart unquestionable performance every time, I noticed that my attitude has become more uptight and serious.  I constantly press myself not to err fearing that erring is a step backward.  Been successful so far attaining a 3.6 rating (4) for 2 consecutive years but a chunk of me was sacrificed to achieve that.  My youthful exuberance.

I’ve taken things much slower now and pulled the stick out of my “trunk” (refer to Black Eye Peas’ My Humps) and ceased to be stiff.  A chuckle every now and then doesn’t mean you take your job less seriously.  A giggle is a soft reliever from stress.  It is after all just another day, another dollar.

Allow yourself to laugh at mistakes.  Say during a big client presentation, you kept referring to the competitor’s brand instead of your client’s because it was in fact your ex-boyfriend’s favorite beer that gives him gas.  Don’t beat yourself up.  Your boss may fire you, but have a good laugh.

It doesn’t have to take a hysterically funny scenario to be able to laugh out loud.  It’s good to be silly sometimes.

3. Exercise while at work

Regular exercise can help one reduce the risk of developing many health-related problems.  For example, exercise can combat obesity, improve circulation, and it can help prevent serious conditions, such as heart attack and stroke.

When I can’t find the time to go to the gym, I do simple exercises at my little corner.  Sitting on the chair with my back straight, I do leg lifts or bicycle motions, which also help strengthen the mid-section.  I can do this while reading emails or cleaning out my inbox.

A little stretching of the shoulders, tricep and back prevents muscle soreness and makes your body limber and flexible.  Breathing exercises are also stationary and can reduce tension.

4. Engage yourself in a conversation with a wise or a well-traveled man.

There is a big yellow light blinking on traveling abroad nowadays.  Proceed with caution.  Instead of taking a health risk with the flu going around, chatting with a well-traveled man can still broaden your horizons.  Hear stories about his travel and let your imagination soar with his treasured memories.  Lengthy discussion with a profound man unwraps a reflective understanding of the world or world issues you might not have opened your eyes to.

5. Make healthy food choices

Eating right can help prevent future diseases and lessen stress levels.  A balanced varied diet provides more energy too.  Once in a while though, we are faced with strong cravings.  Cravings can be pretty bad especially if you are craving for junk food.  I like nibbling on chips and licking off the flavorsome crumbs off my fingers particularly when I am frazzled at the office.  When I need to brood, I sulk with a pint of my favorite ice cream.  Your eating habits also affect your mental condition.  Notice how easily irritated you are when you skipped a meal or finished a big bag of deep fried fries.

Sweets and foods that are high in fat or calories should be taken in moderation.  A good alternative to satisfy your sweet cravings is yogurt.

The Nestle Fruit Selection Yogurt started my love affair with yogurt.  I never thought I’d like yogurt until I tasted NFSY.  I can chew on real fruit pieces in every spoonful of the flavorful lush.  Yogurt is low in fat, which allows me to indulge more without the excessive calories.  It’s also packed with millions of live microorganisms, which is what your body needs for good digestion.  I like the fact that it’s bursting with flavor yet healthy at the same time.  What could be better?

I stack up NESTLÉ Fruit Selection Yogurt in the office fridge.  While it’s good for a quick breakfast or snack, I use it as my luscious pre-filler very much like a salad pre-meal.  Now, they have added 3 new delicious and intriguing flavors to the selection: Melon-Nata, Apple Cinnamon and Raspberry Apple.  The interesting combinations give an extra dose of taste.

Cast off the inhibitions because it’s all full pleasure in a cup without the guilt!  Rev up your energy and take in the luscious delight in every cup.

Nestle Fruit Selection Yogurt launched the BE GOOD TO YOURSELF campaign.  Reading what the campaign is about got me thinking about how I’ve been treating myself.  Getting hurled into the every day express makes me miss out on how I take care of “ME”.

My pledge is to quit the chips and junk food altogether and increase my yogurt intake.  I also want to take up a new hobby and lessen TV time.  I further pledge to avoid poker rooms and see people at the yoga mat instead.  Increasing my height of living is a fantastic life waiting to unfold.  HELLO to a healthy and dynamic lifestyle!

After filling out the Be Good To Yourself form, I lean back on the chair and smile.  Pop a Nestle Yogurt open and pat myself on the back for making the pledge.  Have you patted yourself on the back lately for a good deed, a closed deal, or breaking a bad habit?  Click here so YOU can make a pledge to start making better choices in your life.  Each pledge will also trigger NESTLÉ Fruit Selection Yogurt to render a contribution to the Healthy Weight Fund.  Say goodbye to NEEDLESS THINGS and say hello to a BETTER YOU!

We have all heard the old adage “love yourself before you love another.”  Being good to yourself is not only buying the pair of designer shoes you have been dying to have.  Try living out of the shoebox.  Get the best out of life by bringing out the best in you.

Loving yourself is the secret.
