When in Rome, do as the Romans do. I’d say, wherever, eat what the Romans eat. Italian cuisine is known to be one of the most popular in the world and even in the Philippines locals would say it is easily one of their favorites.
Italy is one of the most beautiful countries I’ve seen, with breathtaking architectural views in Rome of the Colosseum, Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II, the Castel Sant’Angelo, the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica, the Trevi Fountain and the laidback charm yet still rich with history and art of Florence in Tuscany. There is a piercing sense of culture permeating in every corner… and in every dish.
As much as I love traveling, I cannot just fly to Italy on a whim and enjoy a Roman holiday. On a craving for authentic Italian dishes, my impulse would probably take me to Benassi.
Benassi Ristorante Italiano, a pleasant 35-seater-restaurant slash café in Ortigas Center, has a warm elegance yet friendly and casual ambience. Their handsome interior has rich dark heavy woodwork for the tables and accent wall with subdued lighting. True to Italian tradition, it’s a family-operated restaurant with the husband and wife tandem of DJ and Katia Benassi-De Guzman managing it and Katia’s culinary trained mother, Rolyn, creating Benassi’s menu with her 20 years of residence in Italy and kitchen experience.

Ravioli Con Spinaci Php 350
Spinach, ricotta and parmesan cheese
Well-cooked ravioli can be quite a sexy dish – light, delectable and luscious. It’s one of my absolute favorite pasta dishes and Benassi’s ravioli dishes capture the heart –which really resides in my mouth. The sweet and fresh tangy appeal of tomato draws me in while the spinach ravioli interplays beautifully with the mild ricotta and parmesan.
