Konbini Store’s Miso Chasiu Ramen

Bubba had a last-minute meeting at work that Thursday night.  Too bad we weren’t able to make it for the 1st Worship Night this 2011 and missed meeting Marge.  After the late meeting, Bubba invited me to have dinner out.  It was the last night before the “7-day fast” so I left it to Bubba to pick the restaurant.

I’ve always known Konbini Store as a convenience store where you can get all things, spices, sauces, meat cuts, import goods Japanese.  Before Royce chocolates opened in Manila, this also made its mark as the only place you can order Royce chocolates.

Bubba wanted to check out what Konbini has to offer in terms of dishing out warm food so dinner was set here.  Carlos called Bubba and since he got locked out of his house, decided to join us for the late dinner.

On the Table

Tonkatsu PHP 145

Surprisingly, Bubba didn’t order Katsudon and instead settled on Konbini’s Tonkatsu or Japanese breaded chicken chops.  He paired it with an order of Torimeshi or what he described to me as a counterpart of Kamameshi on a bento with chicken meat.

Miso Chasiu Ramen PHP 220

I was going to opt for the Shoyu Ramen but changed my mind and went for Konbini’s Miso Chasiu Ramen.  I wasn’t expecting much but was delightfully surprised that the Miso Chasiu Ramen was really a warm hearty bowl of yum.  In degree of taste and cheaper price, it can actually rival Ukkokei Ramen Ron in my book.

Japanese Tea Pot PHP 50

Konbini doesn’t serve house tea so you will get charged if you request for one but the P50 seems to be worth it since it’s refillable and their green tea with toasted rice is quite good.

What’s interesting about Konbini Store is the way a customer has to order his/her meal.  They have this rack of cards with photos of the dishes and price tag.  You just get the cards (dishes) you want and pay for them at the counter like paying for grocery at a convenience store.  Then they will serve the food on your table.

what’s so funny?

If I want a good ramen in a chilly weather or just simple good Japanese food, I’d definitely be back to Konbini.
