Potluck Dinner and Armin Van Bureen

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Friday evening, around 8ish, Bubba and I were at Sab’s place for potluck dinner.  It was a dinner for couples as three love duos gathered for an evening of good food and conversation.  It was too bad that Didi and Edmund, the supposedly fourth couple, weren’t able to make it.  We missed Didi on this dinner.

Sab’s place is a lovely home and what makes it lovelier is the presence of Brian and Sab’s little Sophie, the cutest Chinese tot I’ve ever seen.  We arrive earlier than Fran and Paul so we bonded with Sophie while her yaya feeds her dinner.  Meanwhile, Sab was slaving away in the kitchen.

Our Menu:
From Sab & Brian
Shrimp cakes
Grilled Salmon
Chocolate Ice Cream

From Fran & Paul
Chicken Mozzarella
Leche Flan

From Jane & Chris
Penne Al Tono Cream
Angel Hair Pasta with Sardines and Capers
Taco Salad with Tostitos Tortilla with Hint of Lime
Choco Crisp

Fran and Paul arrived and we started dinner shortly.  Brian arrived a few minutes after.  There were so much food on the table that we just kept stuffing ourselves –even little Sophie after a full dinner and a bowl of minced apples for dessert partook in the feast!

I was so full after all the good food!  We had to wrap up around 11ish to bring home my favorite dish plates and troop over to World Trade Center for the Armin event.  We got to WTC around midnight, just in time to meet our friends outside the tent.  Happily, the line at the entrance moved fast and it wasn’t more than 15 minutes that we were able to go inside.  Between the past three Big Fish Manila events, it was at this event I really enjoyed the music the most.  I had a lot of fun dancing with Camille, Carlo, Bubba, Francis and Martin.

Again, much love to Martini for getting us in the guest list!  XOXO.

Good Vibes This Weekend

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Life is good.

I had a pretty rough Friday afternoon (more details soon) that really made me feel bad the whole Friday evening.  Someone was being harsh over something that is supposedly not a “BIG” deal to her.  In fact, another person (AP) initiated this BD (big deal) even if I raised a concern about it.  My bad was I still went with AP’s idea despite my uneasiness (having to always be the “taong bahay,” I thought this one time wouldn’t hurt).  To make matters worse, I found out that AP didn’t relay a message that was supposed to be relayed to her early this week that somehow confirms her theory that I don’t give “advise.”

Anyway, I’ll “advise” readers on that soon… maybe during the weekend.  I’m hesitant to expose my personal feelings on this (since negative vibes are not welcome on this site), but I owe it to my online journal (and my health) to have a release… and writing has always been my stress buster.

I digress.  As my offline plurk announced last weekend, God always finds a way to turn things around for me, without me having to ask.  First was the blast I had bonding with CW fam (particularly lil’ sister) during a late night dinner at Bellini’s,  I wish I get to spend more time with them.  2nd was my friend and ex-officemate Martin telling me that he’s bringing me to Armiin on November 21.  In the Sabi group, I’m the least who appreciates house music (heef haf all the way baby, hippity hippity hop! :) ) but being on this guest list means being able to spend time with my friends at the event they enjoy –and that makes me happy.  3rd, I also had a great Saturday with the berks, tagging my first LazerXtreme Laser Tag experience, a successful hole-in-the-wall recommendation at Soms, and winning poker night @ Eric’s house (or hotel whichever is more appropriate.  Goodness, I soooo love ERT’s house!  I dub that my dream house! –with only a few minor adjustments).

Sunday, I had another Laser Tag schedule (yes, two days in a row –only because I cannot turn down any of the two groups.  Plus it’s loads of fun!).  This time it was with the Sabi group and supposedly some from the Photoholic group (shout-out to Madz!).  Bubba’s sister, Jem, and Fidel joined too.  Fidel got his hands on 2 free Platinum passes for the Chris Brown Rihanna concert  that day so Jem bestowed us their Gold tickets –an instant upgrade from our Silver tickets.  Monday night, a small investment quadrupled!

God protects my choice to be happy.  Keep the faith!

Life is good.

Cream Halloween Ball 2008

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

My good college friend Paolo picked me up from work last Thursday for our scheduled poker night.  It’s my 3rd time to play poker this year, first was after our mooncake potluck dinner with friends, while 2nd was during a media launch at Metro Club about a month ago.

I’m so glad that Paolo, who I used to play poker with 3 years back, both online and offline, agreed to resurrect another poker night.  We arrived at Metro Club, a stone throw away from my office, around 620pm and luckily got seated immediately.  We played cash game and Paolo raised the white flag after his 2nd out in an hour.  I was so thrilled to be able to play again.  Paolo had to watch from the sidelines while texting with his newfound friend (wink).  After 3 hours of play, we’ve called it quits.  I won a few hands, which got me really excited.  It’s really a different rush when you win.  Yay!  After a McDo drive through (where Pao treated me double deluxe cheeseburger –grudgingly I might add hahaha.), he dropped me off my place just in time to get ready for Cream.

Bubba and I arrived at World Trade past 12mn.  The line for media sponsor was quite long and it took a good 20minutes to line-up.  The 20minutes flew quickly with all the interesting costumes lined up.  Filipinos are really creative and skilled with craftsmanship.

Inside, we met with the Sabiclub family (minus Carlo, Yssah, Mon, NA, Shiela, etc).  I was happy that Camille, Martin and Francis were able to go.  Since I was so tired that day, my photos are lousy as usual.

Thanks to AXN Beyond for getting us on the Cream Halloween Ball guest list.

Chicane Live on Stage

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

After two years, Chicane is back in Manila.

That evening was packed with a lot of Metro on-goings.  My feet walked into 2 events in a span of 2 hours, URCC University Challenge @ A-Venue Hall and Attica Launch in the same area.  But the big story of the night is the Chicane event presented by Big Fish Manila and Nokia.

My Sabiclub friends –or family if I can put it more appropriately, were raving about Chicane since a month ago.  Although I appreciate house/trance (I can’t even differentiate between the two) music, I grew up knowing about the ‘90s baggy jeans.  Hip-hop and RnB are really the music I can easily relate to.  Carlo and I used to banter back when we were officemates which one really rules the scene.  Of course, my loud voice always won over the debate.  I’ve attended several Big Fish events in the past most of which are the annual Cream Halloween balls and in time, house music steadily gained a higher level of respect from me.

I have to remove cobwebs off my ears though because it’s been almost 2 years since I last attended their event.  The last one was Cream Halloween 2006 –and Bubba, as a friend then, bumped into our group and kept getting my drink from me!  What a flirt!

(Music)

Well If U Love Ya Girl
And Wanna Keep Ya GIrl
Don’t Be Walkin Up And Askin Me To Meet Ya Girl
‘Cause I’m Well Enough A Flirt When I Speak To Girl

My apologies for the commercial break…  Back to tugs tugs tugs ugs ugs…

The Sabi crew planned to all attend the event except for a few (pointing at Yssah) –which made it so tempting for me to go since I miss these guys.  What a delightful feeling it was when I opened my email and read that I won two tickets from Spot.ph!!!

E-L-A-T-I-O-N (and I don’t pop!)  Just natural high baby!

World Trade Center.  Surprisingly, the line for media/VIP guests was longer than the “selling ticket” lane.  15 people were ahead of us.  It didn’t “cramp the style” (let it pass.  No more heef haf language after this) anyhow because it took only a mere 10 minutes to get our names crossed out the list.

Two familiar faces by a cocktail table flagged my sight, gorgeous couple Phoebe and Jayvee.  From Plurk info, I think Nina was supposed to cover the event too.  A few chats, snaps snaps and a handful of UFO blings later, each couple went their way to meet friends.  We got inside and saw the group near the stage.  I hugged Camille tightly because I missed her so!  Carlo enjoying the music… NA looking fab in her chic dress… Shiela and Bubba whispering and laughing heartily on the side… Shiela has the sweetest smile ever.  Even in a dark room full of blasting music, I can feel the softness in her smile.  Drinks drinks drinks… John Boy Lee prepped the crowd.  Dance, dance, dance… sauntering from one area to another…  I’m so glad we had the VIP wrist badge that granted us access to the VIP area.  My feet weren’t so tortured.  I was able to rest in a couch if I need to.  We also bumped into Mark Nep, Yvette, Lala and Richie.  Then back to Sabi peeps…  At one point I saw Ricky Dakker on stage.  We went to the ABS-CBN reserved area where Bubba hung with his friends.  Then back to Sabi peeps… Staring at the stage and basking on the music… Celebrity spotting: Bianca Araneta with husband Mr. Elizalde.  Phoebe gave us Nokia blue light necklace thingies… sweet!

We saw Trina too, CW former officemate in Asia Brewery Inc.  We were on our way out to go to the Johns when we heard loud shouting.  “Chris! Chris!”  (It sounded like an old man’s voice!  Haha, just playing Antz!)  We look up and saw Antz with Mark’s group @ the ABS area, waving his hands summoning us to go up.  Chicane finally came on stage around 3am.  I also bumped into Fritz somewhere in the night –or morning.  Too bad that the band encountered some technical problems –but it totally didn’t spoil my cake.  We left a little past 3 hungry.  We went to Burger Avenue to cap the long but fun night.  I received an SMS from Martin or Martini as I would call him that he caught one of the drumsticks that the Chicane drummer threw –awesome memento of Chicane in Manila 2008 for him.

What a fantastic time it was!  It’s been a while since we’ve been out and this was the ultimate resurrection!  I had an absolute blast going sway sway shake shake wave hands up the whole night!

Much love to Spot.ph (and Karl Bustamante) for the two (2) VIP tickets!
