***UPDATE as of Sept. 3, 2010***
Malacanang has issued Proclamation No. 26 declaring Friday, September 10, 2010 as a Regular Holiday throughout the country to promote national consciousness on the religious and culutural significance of the Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan).
In this regard, employees who will be assigned to work on this day will be given premium pay in accordance with their company’s existing policies.

Will there be a special non-working holiday this month of September?
We’re all anticipating President Noynoy’s announcement.
Last year, September 21, 2009 was declared as a national holiday by Malacañang in observance of Eid’l Fitr.

A lot are asking if September 10, 2010 (Friday) will be declared as a holiday.
Many opinions say it should be declared as one. It’s like saying there’s no Christmas holiday.
If P-Noy/Malacañang does decide to announce it as a holiday, it would probably be declared by tomorrow or latest Sunday.

Malacañang announced yesterday that August 23, which falls on a Monday, will remain a regular working day, contrary to earlier declaration of it being a special non-working holiday under PGMA’s holiday economics. P-Noy declared August 21, which is a Saturday and the actual date of Ninoy Aquino’s death anniversary, as the non-working holiday.

A statement from the presidential palace said President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III is empowered under Republic Act 9492 to modify holidays by law, order or proclamation.
“The purpose for observing Ninoy Aquino Day on August 21 instead of August 23 is to avoid the imposition of unnecessary financial burden upon the employers, ensure the continuity of government, business, and commercial transaction, promote productivity, while at the same time preserve the solemnity of the observance,” the statement read.
I feel for those of you who have already made vacation plans around this “supposedly” non-working holiday. I guess the solution is either you cancel it or file a vacation leave from your respective companies (I know it’s a dent on your VL or paycheck but what can we do, it’s been decided on). Anyway, August 30 is still a regular holiday at this time. You might want to move your plans to that date
And if you’re not skipping town… you might want to have a date in the Metro (or just at the outskirts of it)
XOXO
